June 11, 2004 5:00pm Steve Steinberg will appear at Seattle’s Elliott Bay Bookstore with Lenny Jacobson to discuss the new book Deadball Stars of the National League, edited by Tom Simon. It was done by the Deadball Committee of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and published by Brasseys. Steinberg and Jacobson are Seattle-area SABR members who contributed to the book.

The Deadball Era, from 1901 to 1919, was a time when baseball was dominated by good pitching, place-hitting, and speed on the basepaths. Home runs were not nearly as common as they are today, and many were of the inside-the-park variety. More than 100 stars of that era are profiled in the book.

July 14 - 18, 2004 Steve Steinberg will attend the annual national convention of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) in Cincinnati, held at the downtown Westin Hotel. More than 500 SABR members will gather for research presentations, panels, and speakers, highlighted by the keynote address of Marvin Miller, the labor attorney who helped bring free agency to the sport.
